There is no way to avoid a "way to expensive" method to achieve your goal. At least not with a "professional" quality result. The cheapest option would be to buy a slide attachments for your scanner. Assuming one is available for your model. Another cheap way would be to take your slides in to a photo lab and have the slides converted to digital format. This will avoid the expensive process of making negatives and printing them and then scanning them. Please note that my use of the word "cheap" is relative to the cost of other methods and not to the dollar amount out of your pocket.
