I don't know where you are at as far as installing or uninstalling or
re-installing an OS on your hard drive so this will be very generic.

If there is *anything* on a harddrive that you wish to install an OS onto
you should back up anything you do not want to lose forever.

The Windows install process usually offers the opportunity to partition
and/or format the drive first or, if their is an OS on the drive already, it
will usually ask if you want to "dual boot".

If you choose to format the drive, either during the install process or by
using a third party utility, everything on that drive will be lost.

The install process for other operating sysytems may make the same offers
but I do not know.

My input regarding the effects of formatting was made because you were
asking how to get rid of Ubuntu so you could install windows. Formatting
the drive will get rid of Ubuntu.
