Hi gang, Last night I was watching the news and they were going on about this new blaster worm threat and how Microsoft has released a patch for it which you should apply asap. So I did... and part of the instructions involved going to my network settings (Win2k) and enabling port filtering on my TCP/IP protocol.... then checking "enable only" for all 3 shown. This was "to enable the patch to be applied." Well I did that, then applied the patch, then rebooted my machine as prompted and then went to bed. Got up this morning and I get error messages when I try to check email or load webpages. So I tried the usual stuff -- reset cable modem, reboot etc., then I thought about this stuff I'd changed last night, wondering if this port filtering was causing the problem. I went back into my settings and changed them back to what they originally were, and now as you can see -- my internet connections are working again. So my question is -- what about this port filtering? Is it supposed to be enabled o disabled? Whas that just temporary to allow the patch application and MS instructions forgot to tell me to disable it again? If its supposed to be enabled then why couldn't I get any internet while it was enabled? Makes sense? I hope someone can muddle through what I'm asking and provide a logical answer!!
