Thats great Trudy... I am glad you got it solved. -----Original Message----- From: pchelpers-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:pchelpers-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Trudy Alatorre Sent: August-27-09 10:42 PM To: pchelpers@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [pchelpers] Re: missing or corrupt hal.dll Hi, just want to let everyone know I think I got it. She has a program on it that is called RX Rollback. When it tries to boot up a screen will come on that says "to rollback press the HOME key". The little notebook has something else on the same key as the "home" is. So I had the idea to try another keyboard, just because I could not think of anything else I could still try. To my amazement - with another keyboard attached, the rollback worked! Now all her stuff is safe. The only thing that still needs to be taken care of is that her IE and also Mozilla that she had - they both don't work. So guess all that's left for me to do is dl one from my external harddrive. Thank you all for your help! You mentioned that it had a backup system on the D: drive. Does the device have a Bios that you can direct to boot from the D: Drive to replace the system. I realize it will lose any data that she has on the system but at least if it is still functioning it should be able to restore it to the factory settings. I don't want to try do this, because I am not sure if she wants to use the 1 year warranty and try to send it in to Acer for exchange. > Trudy > --- On Thu, 8/27/09, John Durham <john.modec@xxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > > > From: John Durham <john.modec@xxxxxxxxxx> > Subject: [pchelpers] Re: missing or corrupt hal.dll > To: pchelpers@xxxxxxxxxxxxx > Date: Thursday, August 27, 2009, 2:53 PM > > > Trudy Alatorre wrote: > >> yes, that is what I was trying to do. I have a windows cd from school that I could use to boot to the recovery. The problem is that the little laptop does not have a cd rom drive and it does not want to communicate with my external cd drive. I was just playing around with it, trying all kinds of different things, and now it said "the drive is no longer valid". The little computer is only a few months old. I was thinking maybe a faulty harddrive. I was thinking to have the sister go back to Walmart and se e about exchange. The problem is that the sister insists that she needs the information that is on it. >> Trudy >> >> --- On Thu, 8/27/09, John Durham <john.modec@xxxxxxxxxx> wrote: >> >> >> From: John Durham <john.modec@xxxxxxxxxx> >> Subject: [pchelpers] Re: missing or corrupt hal.dll >> To: pchelpers@xxxxxxxxxxxxx >> Date: Thursday, August 27, 2009, 1:16 PM >> >> >> >> The alternative is to purchase a CD as needed. >> > If the drive can be removed, then it can be read on a number of systems > before being re-initialized.
