Hi pchelpers,

Ever wonder how much CPU time that cool-looking visualization stuff
uses up?

Well, run up WMP and set it to use the Alchemy - Random visualization.
Now, have it play a *.WAV or *.MP3 file. Then, hit Ctrl-Shift-ESC to
pop up the task manager, go to the Processes tab, and look for the
line that starts wih "wmplayer.exe". Look over in the CPU column and
prepare to be surprised; on my system, an AMD Athlon XP 2400+ with an
ATI 5400DV video card, it uses a whopping 55% of the CPU time.

Most of the Musical Colors visualizations use about the same amount of
CPU time, while some of the other visualizations that you'd expect to
also use a lot of time actually use almost no CPU time at all.

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
