Hi pchelpers, i wondered about this little ditty, too. I really like Monty Python & did not remember this so looked it up. Here is what Wikipedia says. Kathleen The song followed the routine called "Fish Licence<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fish_Licence>" in which Mr Eric Praline <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr_Praline>, played by John Cleese <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Cleese>, tried to obtain a pet license for a halibut <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halibut> and numerous other pets, all called Eric. One such pet is half a bee<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bee>. The song relates a tragic yet heartwarming tale, stemming from an accident on one summer's afternoon. The lyrics raise philosophical <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philosophical>questions as to the existence or not of half a bee: "Half a bee, philosophically, must *ipso facto* half *not* be. But half the bee has got to be, *vis-à-vis* its entity - d'you see? But can a bee be said to be or not to be an entire bee when half the bee is not a bee, due to some ancient injury?". The piece ends with a reference to the distinguished English philosopher Cyril Connolly <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyril_Connolly>. It is one of John Cleese's personal favorites of the sketches that he has done. + > > > -- -------list-services-below----------- Regards, John Durham (list moderator) <http://modecideas.com/contact.html?sig> Freelists login at //www.freelists.org/cgi-bin/lsg2.cgi List archives at //www.freelists.org/archives/pchelpers PC-HELPERS list subscribe/unsub at http://modecideas.com/discuss.htm?sig Latest news live feeds at http://modecideas.com/indexhomenews.htm?sig Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
