Kevin, you are awesome and i may need your help, so keep your phone handy.
As back up, to the back up, if you are needed, i will text your phone and
if i don't hear from you in 5 minutes after i text, i will call you. you
might want to give me the hours you work, so i don't call during work.
like, what time you get off work.

i hope not to have to do any quick fill ins.
however, at a moment's notice, we can fill in, when a scope can't attend,
with presenters, as long as we have 5 working members on "clear enough"
nights, and one runner.

William said he would do Runner as many nights as he can. And my daughter
has offered. She can do this, she did it for the group at Tropper event in
May.

Ofelia, if she meets dress code, can fill in,
and so can Frank, when he is available.

I also heard from Don, that he can fill in as runner, when needed.

I think we can do this.

----

Star Tour Members;

So, for those interested... here's what happened Friday.

The DBG team arrived, later than planned, because our contact canceled on
me. So i rearranged my schedule to enjoy dinner before going down to DBG.
Then, 5 minutes before we would have met up with Susan, she texts me to say
she can meet. By then, i was deep into my sub sandwich in N Phx and it
would take a minimum of 1/2 hour to get down there.
Kevin messaged me because he didn't get the cancel notice.

So, i got down there, Susan was waiting at the set up location to ask me if
we could do a walk after our event, so we ended at 10pm, Susan let us pack
up our scopes in our vehicles, and we met and took a walk for about an
hour.

In the dark, the area we visited looks great. We will see, with the 4 spots
we choose, all directions, but not all directions are avialble to every
scope. So, what we want to do is pick 4 scope locations, and designate the
2 presenters loctions for the night.

Tables might be a problem, but we will have to see how that works out.

Susan is at work this week, Tues, wed, thurs and fri only. I only have Tues
and Fri to get together with her. So,i sent her an email which i got a
return email saying she isn't in the office until Tuesday morning, and so i
sent her a message via phone text in hopes she can figure out if she wants
to meet on Tuesday or Friday.

What time? I"m aiming for 9 or 9:30am. Why so early? To beat the heat, and
because i have an 11:30 appointment in N phoenix on both days.

So, if she doesn't get back to me by Monday evening, i will assume we are
doing Friday.

If you a re planning to meet at DBG for the walk around and help pick the
locations and take the notes of where we are setting up, then you must let
me know by Monday at noon.
And if i don't reply, i didn't get your notice.

Would love to have you attend, if you can.
But i don't' know if it will be Tues or Friday this week.
And i don't know if Susan can do it that early in the morning.

Now, if she has to do it later, i can possibly cancel my Friday
appointment, but I don't want to have to do that. So, i'm hoping she can do
early, as she said, when i asked her what time was she thinking "Early
morning, to beat the heat." Those were her words.

So, reply to this email if you wish to attend.
Input is always welcome.

And Susan did explain the light display that will be there for the
Luminaria, and how it will affect observing and other things those nights.
It sounds like we do want to be in the dark area, rather than up on the
hill, although my favorite location is up on the hill for the telescopes.

And we will all have to have some kind of red light on the leg that sticks
out into the walk way at each location we set up. Bring something to light
up the ground where your telescope leg will be. I predict if we have the
crowds we had last time, there isn't a large walk way. The walk way around
the area we are thinking of setting up in is about 1/4 the width of the
walkway at the top of the hill. That means the crowd will be plugging up
the path as they observe through the telescopes. And we will not be close
enough to each other to share what objects we are viewing.

So, prior to the start of the event, we need to discuss what we are going
to look at and then try not to show the same objects. If I am there, i'd
like to put my scope on one objects, stay on it all night, and do Q &A,
too. So, those of us with phones that can text, should keep them handy to
share what objects we are on. I don't' believe any of the spots we were
looking at Friday night, will be close enough to yell over a crowd of
chattering people, what object we are on. However, the Runner can go around
finding out what each of us is on and help us not to duplicate, if needed.

Wow, what a week i have coming up. If you don't see much of me in email,
that is why.

--

on one more thing, since this is a group email....

I have Leprecon pinned down. Everyone who signed up is approved for day
passes on the day they are doing the star party.
And i will post, in a bit, where we are setting up, as that was just
decided now, before i started this email. We will be on the patio at the
Embassy. I didn't choose this location. The Embassy doesn't want us in the
parking lot.

More details will be in the forums. Watch for it and read about it.

Next,i am waiting on reply from Katy about Solar Day at Bookmans, which is
the other event I"m working on setting up. Once i know what time, you can
adjust your RSVP so i know who is attending.

Mike - bring the canopy's please, both of them, just in case we need both.

See you at these fun events!

Hi Terri,
I can work any night as a scope presenter during the event. I can also be
a runner on nights where I'm not a primary guy

I can also attend as a back up on any night where someone backs out at the
last minute

Good morning Star Tours Group,

Many thanks to those who replied with all the details I asked for..

Luminaria

*What nights are you NOT available?*

*Would you be interested in being a Runner, if one is needed?*

When we open up sign ups, I want to be fair to all involved,
so If you list that you are available all nights, then you might have
most of the nights on your list, whether it is as a scope or a Runner.

To me, the Scopes, Runners and Presenters are all just as equally
important
positions. We need that Runner. 4 hours is a long time to go without a
bathroom break, and in such cold temps. So, if you can be a runner, list
it.
And if you have more than 1 scope available to use at this location, list
that as well, becasue I'd like to have you switch between scopes,
depending
on what the largest scope of the night is.

All details you can provide now, will help. But of course, you will be
signing up for the nights you want to do this.. I"m just making sure I
have
notes on who is and isn't availble, and who doesn't want to do this event
at all, so i can make the separate list, from the Star Tours list serv...
so i don't have to bother those who don't have an interest.

I'm working on that list today and into next week, setting it up within
my
gmail account. Or maybe i'll just do it as a list serv, because that way,
everyone who replies, gets the messages. Otherwise, it only comes back to
me and i'd have to forward it out.
What i'm thinking is, if we need a Runner, for a night, let's say no one
signed up to be one on a particular night, I can send out the message and
those who want to be a runner, can be, and first to reply to the request
for a runner would get that position. Same with other positions I might
need filled at short notice.

So, watch for a notice about the Luminaria list serv. I don't know what
to
call it just yet. But i know it takes 2 days, and with this being the
weekend, it will take till Monday before it exists, and then you would
have
to sign up to be part of it. If this becomes a yearly activity for PAS,
you
can just stay on the list each year that you want to be involved in these
events. Makes it easier for me.

Hope everyone is having a spectacular day!

Good evening Star Tours group members,

I'm making a list, to track who is doing what event for the 22
Luminaria
events at DBG and i'm organizing a way to message through a group email
through my gmail account, only those who are planning to attend and be
part
of the Star Tours Luminaria events.

I have had several messages from members who have decided not to be
involved in this year's event for various reasons, and so I'm looking
to
find out who wants to know about these events, and who wants to know
nothing about them.

If you are not planning to any of the Luminaria events this Holiday
Season
2015, please let me know to drop you from the list.

Here's the list, thus far (I copied this from the Revolving Star Tours
List - and this is the order you will be contacted to take the jobs at
DBG):

So, here's who i have available, and those who have dropped. Please
send
me updates, if this is incorrect.

The dates of the Luminaria events was sent out in a previous email.
Let me
know your status.

When you reply, tell me what scope you can provide for these events, or
what presentations, or both, or if you want to be a Runner during the
Luminaria. Some of you might want to be a scope one night, and then
take
the next night a little easier, and be a Scope Runner. I'm ok with
that. I
just need to know who is doing what, before I give away all the dates.
Now
is the time to inform me of what you can do!

Please confirm the below info:

What scope?
What display for Presenter
Can you meet Dress Code?

Terry Dancer - 5" Refractor

Don Boyd - 8" Newt

Earl DeLong - 10" Dob

Sam Insana - 8" Newt

William Finch - 10" Dob

Kevin Witts - 8" SCT + Presentations on 1) Meteorites, 2) Moon, 3)
Planets
? (list each separately), 4) Rocket display

Bruce Wurst - 12.5" SCT

Howard Moneta - 8" SCT or a 14" Dob

Pete Turner - 12.5" SCT ?

Rick Cunningham - 8" SCT or ?

Roger Anzini - 16" Dob

Mike Marron - Presenter: Meteorites

Please Confirm the above info with all possibilities.
I need all the data I can collect for this event.

*Susan is thinking of moving us* to a new location at DBG for this
year's
event. I am going to make a trip there to check with her on it. If you
want
to attend, let me know and I will set it up on a date we can make it
together. Your input is helpful.

*You NEED to reply to this email to stay on the Rotation List for this
event*. NO reply, and I will drop you from the list. If you are
dropping
from doing the Luminaria events, please let me know.

This will be a very busy time for these 22 events. We must work
together,
we must stay in contact the whole time, so the RSVP person may be
asked to
use their phone to confirm attendance (in my absence), and send a
photo of
set up, etc. And reviews for the newsletter, are highly requested.

When you reply, if you prefer NOT to be the RSVP at an event you are
attending, let me know. I can pick someone else to be RSVP, when I'm
not
there. If I am there, I am RSVP, always.

Let's have some fun, make some extra money for the holiday season and
enjoy doing this event again this year!
