The following are 9 weather forecasts as of 8:30 am this morning for tonight
at 8 pm at Encanto/Clarendon star party:
NOAA 24% clouds 11 mph winds 5% rain
TWC 10% clouds 12 mph 0%
Accuweather 25% 9 mph 0%
Weather undgd 3% 12 mph 0%
Weather bug 30% 11 mph ?
Skippy sky 30% 10 mph ?
yr.no 10% 10 mph 0%
Clearsky 50% 12 mph ?
Clear outside 4% 8 mph 0%
The above shows only the wind may be a problem. It will be blowing harder at
5:30 pm, so I recommend not setting up right away, but let it die down a bit.
If you cover your scope with a tarp, blanket, sheet, etc.. be careful to watch
it since wind can cause the protection to act like a sail and a gust could flip
the scope. Since we set up on cement, not grass or dirt, the scopes should be
ok from flying debris. I chose 8 pm for the weather analysis since the sun
doesn't set until 7:10 pm so 8 pm is when we will show most objects.
I recommend we do the star party, but if people have other comments or
suggestions please let us know asap. Thanks, Sam, RSVP for tonight.

star party weather
The following are 9 weather forecasts as of 7:30 am today for Tonight at PVCC
Blk Mtn:
NOAA 53% clouds 6 mph winds 20% rain
TWC 30-50% 7 mph 0%
Accuweather 76% 6 mph 0%
Weather undgd 30% 7 mph 0%
Weather bug 50% 4 mph ?
Skippy sky 30% 10 mph ?
yr.no 10% 6 mph 0%
Intellicast 30% 7 mph 0%
Clearsky 50% 12 mph ?
The above shows no problem with wind or rain, but half the reports are poor for
clouds (50% or more) and half the reports are good for clouds (30% or less).
The satellite images show gaps in the clouds. Therefore, if we still want to go
out there tonight, there may be periods of time where we can see Jupiter or some
bright open star clusters or double stars. It isn't a good night for observing,
so I can understand if some of the larger scopes do not want to try it or if
people have to travel a long distance,
however, I am willing to try it tonight if Terri wants the event to continue.
Sam
The following are 8 weather forecasts as of 7:30 am today for Encanto School
Friday night:
NOAA 25% clouds 8 mph winds 5% rain
TWC 10% 11 mph 0%
Accuweather 10% 8 mph 0%
Weather undergd 9% 11 mph 0%
Weather bug 30% 7 mph ?
Skippy sky 30% 10 mph ?
yr.no 10% 6 mph 0%
intellicast 9% 11 mph 0%
The above shows no problem with rain, a slight wind that shouldn't be a
problem, and a good night with small cloud cover.
I will do a final report tomorrow morning, but it looks doable right now. Sam
