Always burn the mains first. This is a common misconception. See the POH. This is true for Cherokee 235's and Cherokee 6's. In fact, you are supposed to fill the tips before you fill the mains. It has to do with the bending moment of the wings. It is counter-intuitive, but true. I was wondering why you would not use the Tips first? I was advised that it is a lot of weight out there on the wings and better to land with the tips Light Less Strain on the Wing (think of a teeter totter) ----- Original Message ----- From: Scott Wooding To: pa28235@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Monday, May 06, 2002 9:39 PM Subject: [PA28235] Re: cross feed on tip tank???????????????????????????????? Parked on level ground . . . . . BTW its a 1965 if that makes any difference. And of course "I just say no". My wife also confirms the fuel usage/levels. She remembers yesterday how we left it parked, halfers on the mains and tip topped off. ----- Original Message ----- From: FlyboyEd@xxxxxxx To: pa28235@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Monday, May 06, 2002 9:34 PM Subject: [PA28235] Re: cross feed on tip tank???????????????????????????????? Only used the mains on the 1:15 minute flight back home with a slight headwind. Tip were full. parked and tied down. Today, Monday, this evening, headed out for a quick flight with my cousins, besides being a stain mess on the ground, my right main was now full and the tip was completely empty. Like it leaked out of the vent of the right main tank. Has anyone ever had this problem, this is the second time this has happened. The first time it happened, the weather had gotten warm and I thought the main just vented, so I thought nothing of it. HELP !! Before I have the mechanic start the clock. You input would be greatly appreciated. Scott Wooding N9049W Even if you had a faulty valve, I don't know how the fuel could drain down to the valve (if it was parked in a slant).. and then back UP to the main. I can probably explain why you think this happened but it would require your taking a drug test ;-) Ed
