James Gilmore "Jim" Backus (February 25, 1913 – July 3, 1989) was an American
radio, television, film, and voice actor. Among his most famous roles were the
voice of nearsighted cartoon character Mr. Magoo, the rich Hubert Updike III on
the radio version of The Alan Young Show, Joan Davis's character's husband (a
domestic court judge) on TV's I Married Joan, James Dean's character's father
in Rebel Without a Cause, and Thurston Howell III, on the 1960s sitcom

There was an actor whose first name was Jim. Think he starred on a TV show
called "I Married Joan." For the life of me, can't remember the guy's last
name, but later he did a voice for Mr. McGoo on a cartoon series. Can't
remember what network the show was on. Don't think it was Hannah-Barbera who
employed him. They did all of the Huckleberry Hound and Yogi Bear cartoons
which were shown on an independent channel here. They also were responsible for
the Flintstones who were on CBS for all of the years they were on TV. Anyway,
Marty, that might kind of give you a lead. Think his last name may have been
something like Nisson.
