This was one of yesterday’s questions. I found a longer article about it.
But, copied the question and answer below.

Question:
Eric Clapton wrote the classic hit "Layla" as a love song to what rock star's
wife?
"Layla" is a song written by Eric Clapton and Jim Gordon. The song was inspired
by Clapton's then unrequited love for Pattie Boyd, the wife of his friend and
fellow
musician George Harrison of The Beatles. In 1966 George Harrison married Pattie
Boyd,
a model he met during the filming of A Hard Day's Night. During the late 1960s,
Clapton
and Harrison became close friends. Clapton fell in love with Pattie and wrote
the
song "Layla," pouring out his feelings for his unrequited love. Boyd divorced
Harrison
in 1977 and married Clapton in 1979. During their relationship, Clapton wrote
another
love ballad for Pattie called "Wonderful Tonight." Clapton and Boyd eventually
divorced
in 1988 after several years of separation.
May God bless you now, and evermore!
