Wednesday is a golden anniversary for me. 50 years ago (February 3, 1966) -
I opened my first live microphone at KUMD and spent 90 minutes doing
transitions between tapes from what was then National Public Radio. On one
hand, I wish I had a tape to share with you. On the other, I think I'm glad
I don't. It is one of two February thirds in my life that had the effect of
eclipsing from my mind the plane crash that killed Buddy Holly and the
others. The other was February 3, 2010, when my first of 250 Retro Radio
segments was broadcast. I discontinued that one last August, largely because
from my perspective, 250 seemed enough.
All these occasions seem reason enough for another five nuggets. The usual

01 Robbie Nevil - C'est La Vie
In the 80s, I was still listening to enough current music to know that this
one (I think it was from 86 or 87) was a powerful favorite of mine.
02 Grass Roots - The Runway - [STEREO]
I had never heard this one by the Grass Roots 'til last week, when it was
played on Rewound Radio.
03 Steve Miller Band, Going To The Country
I almost lead with this one a couple weeks ago, but decided to use Miller's
"Heart Like a Wheel" instead. This was one of Steve's first records,
debuting in 1970 - several years before "The Joker," "Jungle Love," "Big old
Jet Airliner," and his other big hits. I've always thought the Dave Matthews
Band could have done a heck of a job with this one, but I don't think they
ever recorded it.
04 Norman Greenbaum, Canned Ham
This was Norman's folloe-up to "Spirit in the Sky," and was on his "Spirit
in the Sky" album. Not a big hit, but kind of fun.
05 Big_Bopper-Big_Bopper_s_Wedding
This was J P Richardson's follow-up to "The Big Bopper. It was released
around Christmas time of 58.
