Walt, many thanks for these neat nuggets! Have just downloaded them and looking
forward to hearing them. Sure glad football season has begun. I think this is
my favorite time of the year, not only because of the start of football and
cooler weather, but my brother has heirloom tomatoes for me this time of year,
and wow, are they ever splendid!

With college students already back in town, and fall fashions starting to show
up in store windows, guess there's no secret about which season is on the
horizon. So, we might as well usher in fall with five more nuggets. Don't

01 Benny Goodman, King Porter Stomp (1985)
If my memory serves me correctly, this was first a hit for Benny Goodman in the
late 30s, when Harry James was still a member of his band. I found this 1985
version on Youtube. It was recorded about a year before Goodman died, and
perhaps four or five before James died. The clarinet and trumpet solos in it
demonstrate that it's possible for such accomplished musicians as these to play
with the same gusto no matter what their age.
02 Bonnie raitt - Thing called love
This was a late 80s hit for Bonnie, daughter of the late broadway theater legend
John Raitt.
03 Les Elgart Orchestra, The Dancing Sound, 1956
A part-timer at the Twin Cities' WDGY used this as a theme, and I liked it very
much back in 56.
04 Paul Evans, I was a Part Of The 50's
This one was recorded in the late 90s by Evans, whose 50s and 60s hits included
"Seven Little Girls."
05 Paul Evans, After the Hurricane
This was the last Paul Evans release I heard on the air. And I think Easter Day
(April 2, 1961) may have been the only occasion on which I heard it. It wasn't
that much of a hit, but I regarded it as one of his better efforts.
