Hey Marty: Thanks again for the nuggets. So you know, Torquay Two was 1963.
Jerry Treatway bought a copy of it thinking he was getting the original
version. He was not a happy camper. The record companies did that quite a bit
back then especially when a group changed labels as the Fireballs did. John

Subject: [ourplace] Monday Morning Nuggets for August 22, 2016
As we drive by my wife's former high school these days, we can't help but
notice that activity - sports and other preparations - is in full swing
already. That we don't have to be any more concerned about it than to observe,
is indeed reason enough for five more nuggets. Usual drill. Dropbox link first.
Then, the track list.

01 Fireballs, Torquay one, 1959
This was the original version of the group's first hit from the summer of 59.
That was fully four years before "Sugar Shack."
02 Fireballs, Torquay Two, 1966
This version was part of an album that included polished versions of the
Fireballs' hits to that point.
03 Roger Miller, Me And Bobby McGee
If memory serves, this came out in 67. That would have been three or four years
before Janis Jopland recorded it.
04 Kenny Rogers, Me and Bobby McGee
This one sounds as though Kenny recorded it with the First Edition. Same sort
of instrumentation and vocal inflection as on "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to
Town"
05 Artist unknown, Mr. Magoo
If I had been the artist on this one, I think I'd have opted for no one to know
who I was either. You do have to give it this though. Same arrangement as the
one Janis Jopland used in her hit version.
Next week's nuggets will be the last 'til October third. To tell the truth, I'm
about ready for a break - even one that includes some more house projects.
In the meantime, enjoy your Monday and your week.
