I decided to post my answer to Johns question to the list in case anyone else was worried about us.

Hey Don and Lisa,

I've been following the news about the wild fires in central Texas with a great deal of concern. A couple of Texas friends on FB have responded to my query about their safety, but I haven't heard from you and so am concerned. I've heard that so far most of the destruction has been in rural areas, but Tow is nothing if not rural if I remember correctly. Are you okay? How about your new house? Sorry to be a worrywart. It's something I inherited from my mom. Let me know what's up okay? Thanks.

John, so far, the fires are so far away from us that it hadn't occurred to me to update any of our friends as to our status with regards to the fires. Large areas of the state are potential fire traps due to the severe drought we're having but our place is several blocks, in any direction, from wooded areas which would greatly increase our risk and, as I said, so far none of the fires are at all close to us. Here's hoping that continues to be the case but VFDs all over the state are gearing up for the worst and making recruiting appeals to the communities they serve. I've never been a volunteer fireman so I have zilch for training but I've been thinking that perhaps I should contact our local fire chief and let him know I'm willing to help if the need arises.
