you might try rlwrap  http://utopia.knoware.nl/~hlub/rlwrap/

I've tried it in the past, but ran into a couple of issues using
vim on linux when editing from sqlplus.

Most of the issues were cleared up in 0.23.
0.24 may work better.

I don't recall just what the issue was, but it was fairly minor,
and had to do with the way I configure vim.
