V11 RMAN

I'm reading "RMAN Recipes for Oracle Database 11g" By Darl Kuhn, Sam
Alapati & Arup Nanda.
(Excellent book!!!)
It notes that V11 RMAN can now duplicate a DB without having any existing
backup.
The source of the duplication is an active database. COOL!
Does anyone know if V11 RMAN can interoperate against lower version
databases?
Unfortunately I'm in no position to test this capability myself.
