It does require installing an Oracle database, which is kind of the point.
I want to see how oracle performs, not a simulation of Oracle.
While it may not exactly characterize the workload we have, it is better
than just
using something like ioZone, though I do intend to use ioZone. ( I have some
benchmarking
to do this week)
There is a facility to create your own workloads with this tool as well.
What I like to see is how far I have to push the server to saturate the
cache, and see
server phsyical IO climb, server logical IO decline, until they meet.
The only way to truly characterize your workload is with a tool such as
replay
(extra cost option in 11g) or with something like James Morle's simora
