My 2c worth: Once the new features allowing a DBA to grant others access to individual schemas came out with Oracle 9i, I have become a big fan of the multiple schema concept. This not only allows for better security, it also enables the DBA to control and administrate. Sybase and DB2 have had the concept for years. It's also enabled us to have multiple customers with limited access to each other's data, in the same database, and have saved us some $$$$ on licensing as well.
