Hi All,

I'm Andy Liles, Production Manager for Rampant TechPress. I have been
reviewing some of these threads concerning our books.
We originally printed these books in large fonts because some of the older
DBA's (Mike Ault and Don Burleson) don't like to have to use their
bi-focals. These guys suggested that a larger font might make the books easy
to read. [We're still trying to figure out how Don can use our book as a
cane!]

Anyway, we are a new publisher and learning as we go.
For all of our next printings, we have widened the page size and reduced the
font size, while still making the content readable.

As for Stephen Lee, please send me an e-mail to andy@xxxxxxxxxx, and I'll
send you free copies of the three books you returned, in the new format.

Sincerely,

Andy Liles
Production Manager

I for one am pleased with the fonts in the Rampant books. I have to use
a 1024X screen to enable the applications to display all the info and my
eyes are tired by the time I get to sit and read manuals. The larger
than legal document print is quite welcome for this old fartttt.

I was so disgusted with the Big Chief tablet books that it's possible they
put me in a bad frame of mind, so that I might not have given the third book
-- which was in a normal font -- as fair a consideration as I maybe should
have. As best as I can remember the Big Chief books were:
Mike Ault's Oracle Internals Monitoring & Tuning Scripts
Oracle Utilities: Using Hidden Programs, Import/Export, SQL*Loader,
oradebug, tkprof, & More
I'm not 100% certain, but about 98% sure these were the two books that made
me ask: What are these guys thinking?!
And for those people not familiar with the "Big Chief" thing: It is (or was)
a common brand of pad of paper used by school children learning to write.
The Laddie pencil is a type of pencil, bigger than normal and painted blue,
used by these children.
