I'll try and stay on topic Jared :(=20 FWIW I largely agree with Thomas. We also run windows boxes, and they are c= ertainly stable enough for us. For the last 90 days for our 4 business crit= ical systems we have System Availability: 99.9945% System Availability: 99.9816% System Availability: 99.9926% System Availability: 100.0000% (but missing a patch or two as the system is= n't *as* important) This is std edition on Windows2000. it maybe that buy throwing out all the = expertise we hae in house and buying some nice big RISC boxes and RAC etc t= hat we reduce the downtime on these systems from the 40 minutes a quarter o= r thereabouts that they are costing us, perhaps by as much as 30 minutes. F= or some reason though CTD springs to mind. For many purposes windows is che= ap enough, fast enough and good enough. Expertise is relatively cheap (at l= east that's what they tell me when I negotiate salary rises :( ).=20 Now if we decide to consolidate these databases and/or run a RAC/GRID solut= ion at some future point linux might look attractive given the amount of de= velopment Oracle is putting into it, but it won't be because of the problem= s inherent in the windows platform.
