Michael,

I haven't heard of an Oracle feature that will write archive logs to
different destinations such as you describe. You can write an O.S. script to
check for space and move stuff around. But your use of RMAN probably rules
that out. If you are using RMAN to back up your archive logs, you can simply
perform that task more often, thereby reducing the amount of on-disk archive
storage. Or you could remove the archive log backup from RMAN. Just manage
and back up the archive logs yourself. In a recovery situation you simply
produce the archive logs at the location RMAN expects them.
But the larger issue is that you simply don't have adequate disk. Being
clever can easily end up compromising the recovery prospects of this system.
And if the data wasn't worth protecting, you wouldn't be so
concerned. Instead of creating clever technical solutions you might better
spend your time and energy pointing out to management that they need to buy
more disk to protect this system.
