Make sure that's 8.1.7 as the 8.1.7.4 patch level... an earlier patch
release will give you an ORA-03134 error message.

Metalink note 207303.1 - Oracle 10G client is "officially supported" for
connecting to 8.1.7 but nothing earlier.

I am using a beta copy of Oracle 10g.
I am able to create database and use SQL*Plus to connect to the 10g
instance.
I can use SQL*Plus 10g to connect to Oracle 9i instances.
However I am having problems getting the 10g instance to connect to 8i
instance.
Does anyone know if Oracle 10g can connect to Oracle 8i instances ?
