For the basics, the CLUVFY utility is a good start; it can check kernel
parameters and environment settings. Also you could have a look at chapter
2 of the clusterware manual here:

That covers OS patches, kernel params, UDP params, and some other stuff...
but it's still basic preinstall things that hopefully are already setup
right in your environment. But it never hurts to check if you're not sure.
"Contention" is pretty broad and it's hard to give some next steps without
knowing what the contention is for -- I/O? CPU time? Local locks? Global
locks? Network bandwidth? Maybe some others here will have suggestions.
