Here's a nice PDF that Eric Kegley posted working with the Staruenghi lens.

Hi all,

You are thinking of Eric Kegley. He's a pro with the Staurenghi lens. You have
to practice with it to get good at it. It's no different than a resident
getting use to using one for a laser.

Heidelberg is also coming out with a new ultra wide field lens that attaches to
the Spectralis like the 55 degree and anterior segment lens. It was just
introduced at ASRS and you can see it at the AAO/OPS meeting too. We expect to
ship it sometime in 2013. The angle is approximately 108 degrees but it depends
on the patient's refraction as to the exact angle. When I get some approved
images I'll send them to the group. You can see more at

Hi Darrin;

I think we visited this topic, but I left out my 2 cents. We found it difficult
for one person to handle and pay attention to everything else, but it worked
out OK with two of us. At one of the OPS meetings a photographer from Texas
(sorry it was a couple of years ago) said he used it regularly alone with great
results. Since we purchased the 55 degree lens as well as the Optos, we rarely
use the Staurenghi lens.

Anyone using the Staurenghi lens regularly? We are thinking about getting one,
and I wanted to get feedback from users (ease of use, tips, etc)
Thanks
Darrin
