Here at Kellogg we have all of our exam rooms in our Plastics service set up
for external imaging. I’ve attached 2 images. We (Richard Hackle actually) put
a studio strobe in each room and use a Canon PowerShot SX540 HS or you an use
something like a CoolPix L330. You need something that has a custom setting and
an optical zoom of at least 100-135mm. The lens will keep your perspectives
correct (no wide faces or gigantic noses) and the custom setting will allow you
to set the camera up so no matter who uses it the settings are always the same.
You may also need to color balance it depending on the wall colors in the exam
room. Even off white rooms will throw a lot of yellow tint to the image.
You’ll also need a camera with an external trigger or hot shoe mount. We use
the Impact radio slave series. The transmitter is on the hot shoe mount and
receiver is not he strobe. The strobe light is bounced off the wall to provide
a nice even illumination.
Take my lecture in Chicago and see whole set up.
Thanks,
Tim

Subject: [optimal] External camera suggestions
I am interested in suggestions for an easy to use camera for external
photography, mostly ptosis, eyelid lesions, etc. The technicians and doctor
will be using it.
A small SLR with modest telephoto would be good, with aperture priority an
option to get more depth of field. Don't want to spend a fortune.
So what are you using?
Thanks.
