Hi Frank, 'The Mousetrap'is a play which ran (still runs? ) here in London for deca= des. A nice fantasy like ATSC solutions. A very nice analogy for ATSC nth= generation chips/tuners/demods which may eventually match the 2004 DVB-T= boxes for indoor reception, and I must resist the temptation to speak ab= out SoC DVB-H chips which will also do DVB-T as well. Now that would be r= eally cruel.. You are 100% right: in ATSC land nothing has changed. Elsewhere everythin= g in DTV is changing: MPEG4, mobile etc.. Kind Regards on this fine spring morning here, Dermot Nolan -------------Forwarded Message----------------- From: INTERNET:opendtv@xxxxxxxxxxxxx, INTERNET:opendtv@xxxxxxxxxxxxx To: "'opendtv@xxxxxxxxxxxxx'", INTERNET:opendtv@xxxxxxxxxxxxx = Date: 17/03/105 11:53 PM RE: [opendtv] Rewriting history books WAS Re: 5th generation Test = Hilarious! After being gone from the list for awhile, I return to find th= e same old topics and arguments. = Funny how little has changed in ATSC-land. Hey, maybe the 6th gen chips w= ill do the trick! When that incremental improvement turns out to be not q= uite enough, there will be the promises of 7th generation. The better mou= setrap that will do the job is always just around the corner, by definiti= on. = And Congress is actually proposing to close the loophole on NTSC shut-off= ! Maybe those 6th or 7th gen chips will be under $5 by the time NTSC goes= dark, so a working $45 STB can be made available here in 2007 or 2008 - = just like they had in the U.K. in 2004. = -- Frank Eory = = ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can UNSUBSCRIBE from the OpenDTV list in two ways: - Using the UNSUBSCRIBE command in your user configuration settings at Fr= eeLists.org = - By sending a message to: opendtv-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word un= subscribe in the subject line. ----------------------- Internet Header -------------------------------- Sender: opendtv-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Received: from turing.freelists.org (freelists-180.iquest.net [206.53.239= .180]) by siaab2ab.compuserve.com (8.12.11/8.12.7/SUN-2.17) with ESMTP id j2HBq= GvA006034 for <dmenolan@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>; Thu, 17 Mar 2005 06:52:16 -0500 (EST) Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by turing.freelists.org (Avenir Technologies Mail Multiplex) with ESMTP = id 34EE886AC6; Thu, 17 Mar 2005 06:53:32 -0500 (EST) Received: from turing.freelists.org ([127.0.0.1]) by localhost (turing [127.0.0.1]) (amavisd-new, port 10024) with ESMTP id 08268-06; Thu, 17 Mar 2005 06:53:32 -0500 (EST) Received: from turing (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by turing.freelists.org (Avenir Technologies Mail Multiplex) with ESMTP = id 97BD686A59; Thu, 17 Mar 2005 06:53:31 -0500 (EST) Received: with ECARTIS (v1.0.0; list opendtv); Thu, 17 Mar 2005 06:53:04 = -0500 (EST) X-Original-To: opendtv@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Delivered-To: opendtv@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by turing.freelists.org (Avenir Technologies Mail Multiplex) with ESMTP = id 932A6868F5 for <opendtv@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>; Thu, 17 Mar 2005 06:53:04 -0500 (EST) Received: from turing.freelists.org ([127.0.0.1]) by localhost (turing [127.0.0.1]) (amavisd-new, port 10024) with ESMTP id 08156-07 for <opendtv@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>; Thu, 17 Mar 2005 06:53:04 -0500 (EST) Received: from de01egw01.freescale.net (de01egw01.freescale.net [192.88.1= 65.102]) by turing.freelists.org (Avenir Technologies Mail Multiplex) with ESMTP = id 4A718867E3 for <opendtv@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>; Thu, 17 Mar 2005 06:53:04 -0500 (EST) Received: from de01smr01.am.mot.com (de01smr01.freescale.net [10.208.0.31= ]) by de01egw01.freescale.net (8.12.11/de01egw01) with ESMTP id j2HCsq3k003= 917 for <opendtv@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>; Thu, 17 Mar 2005 05:54:52 -0700 (MST) Received: from az33exm42.am.freescale.net (az33exm42.am.freescale.net [10= .64.34.248]) by de01smr01.am.mot.com (8.13.1/8.13.0) with ESMTP id j2HBsq5Z022917 for <opendtv@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>; Thu, 17 Mar 2005 05:54:52 -0600 (CST) Received: by az33exm42.am.freescale.net with Internet Mail Service (5.5.2= 657.72) id <G6591KV1>; Thu, 17 Mar 2005 04:53:00 -0700 Message-ID: <B9686C92B2F8D811B6BC000F20D7E464096F84BF@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx= ale.net> From: Eory Frank-p22212 <Frank.Eory@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: "'opendtv@xxxxxxxxxxxxx'" <opendtv@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: [opendtv] Rewriting history books WAS Re: 5th generation Test Date: Thu, 17 Mar 2005 04:52:59 -0700 MIME-Version: 1.0 X-Mailer: Internet Mail Service (5.5.2657.72) Content-type: text/plain X-Virus-Scanned: clamd / ClamAV version 0.75.1, clamav-milter version 0.7= 5c on siaab2ab.compuserve.com X-Virus-Scanned: by amavisd-new-20030616-p9 (Debian) at avenirtech.net Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit X-archive-position: 6873 X-ecartis-version: Ecartis v1.0.0 Sender: opendtv-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Errors-To: opendtv-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx X-original-sender: Frank.Eory@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Precedence: normal Reply-To: opendtv@xxxxxxxxxxxxx X-list: opendtv X-Virus-Scanned: by amavisd-new-20030616-p9 (Debian) at avenirtech.net X-Virus-Status: Clean ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can UNSUBSCRIBE from the OpenDTV list in two ways: - Using the UNSUBSCRIBE command in your user configuration settings at FreeLists.org - By sending a message to: opendtv-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word unsubscribe in the subject line.
