Try again, Craig. There isn't enough bandwidth to the home to make
"cloud" storage practical. In a home network, you can exploit the maximum
throughput of the LAN, be it 1 Gbps for a wired network, or even the 50-100
Mbps of a wireless LAN.

Try getting that amount of throughput, IN BOTH DIRECTIONS, with your average
DSL or Cable Modem. Then try it again when others in the household are
streaming video.

John continues:

There will probably be a trend towards setting up a single household
desktop as a file server with multiple laptop/netbook/tablet users in the
house.

More likely a cloud server that keeps all of the family files and content
so they can be streamed to any device anywhere.
