Sorry John. You pay a TAX on the TV, not for the TV service. And that TAX is used to pay for the BBC. You pay this tax no matter how you get your content: cable, DBS or OTA.

Under U.S. law you MUST buy an ATSC receiver with a new TV, whether you want it, will use it, or not. That's a tax too. But it pales in significance to the government taxes that are added on to every phone, cable, and DBS bill.

Why John, are other broadcasters paying large amounts of money (70-100 million Euros) to get a slot on Freeview, where the only revenue they can generate is from advertising?
