It's kind of ironic. The UK is now considered to be a "mature" DTV market. The transition to digital is almost complete thanks to a pragmatic approach to the DTV transition.

Meanwhile, here in the U.S. the DTV transition for broadcasters has barely begun.

Now that HDTV technology is maturing, it is a natural next step for the UK.

Meanwhile U.S. broadcasters lobby the FCC to prevent cable systems from downgrading their digital signals for distribution on the analog tier, and use their HDTV content as a weapon to gain retransmission consent payments.

A very stark contrast.
