Bits are not free. Even AT&T incurs costs for the zero-rated bits.
So now we see how the FCC may use Title II to control internet competition.
AT&T claims that DirecTV pays for zero rating, just as other companies do for
sponsored data. But the FCC is questioning whether that gives AT&T and DirecTV
an advantage since the money moves from one subsidiary to another?
I don't buy that argument as a net neutrality violation.
- IF AT&T charges DirecTV less than they charge other companies for sponsored
data they may have a point.
- IF not, they are tilting at windmills.
