[ola] Words and cognition

I also posted this on the OLA fb page, but for those of you who don't often 
check it or don't have it, wanted to share it with you as well.

It would seem that, without language, we are essentially incapable of thought.

Check out this Radiolab episode about words, their meaning to us, and what 
happens when we don't have them. Personally, I both cried and was inspired.

Questions I'm left with: 

1. If having words gives us the ability to connect ideas and form thoughts, 
what is the implication for speakers of multiple languages? Theories exist for 
interlanguage (two or more languages operating together as one language). Do 
our languages interact and give us one full language system, or are they 
separate?

2. What are the cognitive implications for speakers (thinkers) of multiple 
languages? There's plenty of research out there about this, curious what y'all 
think...
