I think it would work for OLA purposes. Let me know your thoughts. If you think it's interesting enough, please send your comments/questions. I'll use those to put together something more complete looking. I'm typing all this on Lisa's Ipad, so hopefully the formatting comes through. Hope you are all having an excellent summer. We are enjoying winter in the tropics - another month to go and loving every minute of it. In fact, I can say with relative that I would be just fine spending the majority of my time abroad. Take care, Nanosh Skill/Objectives: Act it Out, show understanding of Final assessment: Students will perform a 60-second pantomime in front of the class. Pre-assessment: Students brainstorm all the pantomimes they've ever seen. What kinds of pantomimes do they use already to communicate with one another? (Example: silent communication in a class to figure out another student's answer to a question without disturbing the rest of the class). *I'm planning on doing this toward the beginning of class, when trust built up might be a little bit lower - the pre-assessment is going to be pretty light. Maybe I could tape students privately doing their own pantomimes, so that they could compare their final project to their original (Maybe broadcast to the class, so that they can see the difference when grading it?) Post-Assessment - How does this pantomime thing relate to communication in a foreign language? What are some of the actions you could imagine using in another country when arriving? Evaluation: Who/what/where/when, clear & realistic character, convincing gestures, can we see/follow the scene?, clear beginning and ending (something has to HAPPEN to the main character. Skills modeled: Teacher models several different types of pantomimes & has students practice in groups. Teacher also shows several youtube clips of famous pantomimes performing. Skills to practice leading up to the final assessment: 1. Mirror exercises (students mirror one another's actions - idea is to become aware of unintentional movements) 2. Entrances and exits (students get a ticket with an event (won the lottery) and the other students have to guess what happened. You could have a ppt with 3 guesses in Spanish - students in the audience have to pick one. 3. Everyday Activities (students get a ticket (ex: school party) must act in front of the class. Students in audience should join in and play their own part when they realize what the activity/event is. 4. A practice sheet with practice at novice, intermediate, and advanced-levels. Each category has three sets of ten: the third set students develop on their own (thus they practice making situations that conform to ACTFL guidelines - we will also get sets of items more appropraite for students' tastes). Ex (I'm sure all these sections need work in terms of aligning them with ACTFL guidelines): Novice (memorized phrases) Set 1 Set 2 Set 3 1. I'm hungry / Are you hungry? 1. I'm ______ years old. / How old are you? Design your own set 2. I'm thirsty / Are you thirsty? Where is the _________? ... Intermediate (sentences/strings of sentences) Set 1 Set 2: Set 3 1. Advanced (narration/storytelling) Set 1: Set 2: Set 3 1. Yesterday I was playing baseball, 1.
