Hi Alan,
I have two trail cameras, Moultrie brand, that I have used around my two water
features. You can set them up to take video or photos with various lengths of
time between consecutive shots. They seem to be quite sensitive as I have
video of large moths at night (or you can set it to turn on at a set interval).
I've used them to detect night creatures (how many folks can say they have
spotted skunk as a yard mammal?) but also to determine which bird species are
coming in to bathe and drink during the day when I am away. I found that it is
easier to determine species using video with sound than taking photos.
Hummingbirds trip the motion detection no problem. These also work great to
detect thieves: we have night video of a masked bandit climbing up to our upper
deck, balancing on the rail and draining the sugar water out of the hummingbird
feeder. Who knew raccoons have a sweet tooth?
Let me know if you want more information.
cheers,
Jim

I'm interested to know who uses trail cams, what kind and what you think of
them. I'm interested to know what is around my yard at night.
