I would like to hear from someone who has experienced in birding the Trout
Creek Mountains, or from someone who intends to bird there in the future. I
birded them somewhat extensively in June, 1979, August, 1980, and
September,1982. During the September visit, I hiked about five miles northeast
from the end of a spur road on the east side of the range, over five ridges,
and down into the upper reaches of Wildhorse Creek. Many of the canyons between
ridges contained aspen groves, but one was almost completely full of short
bushes and thick brush, a habitat I have seen no where else in the Trout
Creeks, or indeed anywhere in Oregon. I would not be at all surprised if it
contained Virginia's Warbler during breeding season. But it is likely one of
the most remote, difficult of access, and underbirded locations in all of
Oregon. So I would like to connect with someone else who has been in this
canyon or who intends to be there in the future. Please reply off-line.
