I'm pretty sure I saw Chestnut-backed Chickadees at East Bay Campground, Thompson Lake (Lake County) in June of 1976. That was with Alan Contreras and Sayre Greenfield. In July of 1984 I detected them at Mud Springs Campground/Bull Prairie in the Warner Mountains(Lake County). The Thompson Reservoir site is very much P-pine, verging on Juniper. The Warner site colder (with Lodgepole Pine) but seemingly no moister. I highly recommend the Warner Mountains to anyone interested in ambiguous biogeography. They combine features of the Cascades, Sierras, and Great Basin.
