P.S. One interesting thing I noticed is that, of the total 78 Savannah Sparrows that were found in Marion County, more than 2/3 of them (55) were found by Nicholas Martens and Maureen Leong-Kee on a circuit of Pintail Marsh at Ankeny NWR. This perhaps illustrates how grass-loving sparrows have gotten packed into the small patches of habitat that still remain, at the end of this year's prolonged dry season of dusty, disked-up fields. A similar pattern was seen in Benton Co. where 35 of 45 Savannah Sparrows were around the Philomath sewage treatment ponds. In Polk County, only 11 Savannah Sparrows were found. -- Joel Geier Camp Adair area north of Corvallis OBOL archives: www.freelists.org/archive/obol Manage your account or unsubscribe: //www.freelists.org/list/obol Contact moderators: obol-moderators@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
