Jeff, I live in Salem, not in particularly good goldfinch habitat, but for 15
years my feeders have kept 8-12 American and 6-10 Lessers around all
winter--except this year. Two Am and two Lessers appeared in November for a few
days and since then not a single goldfinch. Moreover, Siskins have been very
scarce in my yard this winter--a major departure from normal. On the plus side,
my backyard has its first ever WT Sparrow this winter. --John Shewey
