Hi Dottie & All,
According to the AOU, the new name for most of our scrub-jays in Oregon
is "California Scrub-Jay."
I plan to file an objection in favor of calling it the "Adair
Scrub-Jay," as Hwy 99W near Adair Village was one of the locales where
road-kill samples were gathered for the genetic work (likely because
there's an ODFW office there, the same place where the specimen of
Oregon's first Cassin's Kingbird disappeared).
Speaking of which, I saw another scrub-jay specimen along the highway
near Adair Village, just two days ago.
Happy birding,
Joel
