Today was indeed a fine day of birding. A decision to stay closer to home
turned out to be a wise one. On Stringtown Road we observed a male
RING-NECKED PHEASANT feeding in fields on the east side of the road.
Further north where Stringtown meets Hwy 8 in a farmers yard a mixes flock
of BREWERS BLACKBIRDS, EUROPEAN STARLINGS AND 3 BROWN HEADED COWBIRDS were
seen in the large hard wood in the front yard (oak if I recall). Along
Cedar Canyon Road we saw a NORTHERN PYGMY OWL perched in leafless deciduous
tree above clearcut. It allowed us to gawk and take lots of photos...such
a treat to see! Finally LL Stub Stewert...in hopes of seeing Gray
Jays...revealed another N. PYGMY, along with calls from NORTHERN SAW-WHET
and two BARRED OWLS.
Good Birding!
