Jack, very nice and exciting find! What a memory. Nice photos, and it
appears one of the juveniles is enjoying the remnants of a squirrel
(species?). It was also good to see the article and be reminded of good
birding etiquette.
I will be camping later this week with my daughter, deep in the Umatilla
National Forest near the North Fork Umatilla Wilderness area in NE Oregon
.... and i hope to merely get a glimpse of a Northern Goshawk. Even more
cool would be a night holler from one of the Mt.Emily wolf pack
individuals!

The first few years I searched tirelessly - then reality set in and I
figured I should be happy with periodic distant views of the bird flying by
one hawk watch station or another. But on a hike today, Jill queued me
into very faint screams of juveniles, and after a cross-country scramble
over steep terrain, we were rewarded with a great view of two juveniles.
One looking as if it had just fledged.
