Don, This is a good question and the answer is that it is a Red-winged Blackbird. This bird is not glossy black like a male Tricolored and the color of the red and light areas in the wing coverts are not right for Tricolored. The light areas are creamy (not gleaming white) and if you look closely the tips of the median coverts become more yellowish towards the orangish-red epaulet. The exposed red in the folded wing of a Tricolored is generally not as extensive as what this bird shows and the red should be crimson or blood red, with none of the orangish tone shown by this bird.
