In support of the urban myth about a study recently concluded on the
negative consequences arising from the (coerced) absence of conflict in
otherwise healthy relationships, I thought it was my duty to stir things up
a bit by sharing my most recent excursions into the mid to higher
elevations in c. casades in search of species that live and breed in
forests characterized by dense canopy closure of mature and old-growth
trees, abundant logs, standing snags, and live trees with broken tops.
You are welcome to attempt to exorcise the evil spirits that are clearly
responsible for my provacative behavior so long as you provide me with
advance notice of the tools-of-the-trade that you will use to rid me of
this quest and the accompanying inexplicable desire to share the experience
with you.
The title of the photo is (of course) "Mischievous Me" - - - it has been
altered to thwart attempts to independently identify the location of this
potentially special place.

The orange marker denotes the location of a small pond that I am very
curious about because I inadvertantly flushed a raptor from this location
in 2014. The red map markers are confirmed historical nesting locations of
the object of my interest. All other marks are track points of recent
visits that I plot to help me plan my next visit.
As you will probably conclude on your own, the center of the map represents
an area of great interest. It holds seven individual nests that might have
been formerly used by birds I am interested in learning more about.
Mine is not the shortest path between two points - but it is an enjoyable
one for me.
Extended semi-strenuous exercise, solitude, and the hope for discovering a
great bird is what draws me into the area. Especially during the
accomodating conditions of the past two winters.
I've received conflicting opinions from the (elders) of our most populist
list-serves in Oregon as to whether, or not, species conservation is an
appropriate topic of discussion. And, while the two most strident opinions
given me early on by a couple of cohorts remain the most painful for me to
reflect on to this day, I view that exchange as water under the bridge.
My question now is - does this post offend you? If so, please feel free to
publicly lampbaste me here.
Better that, than go deeper into the deadzone of proprietary we're in now .

This from the guy who arguably has made more bonehead mistakes in the past
five years on the state's listserves about bird identification and
appropriate topic protocol than anyone else I am aware of,
