Fascinating thread and intriguing suggestion to attempt the human version!

Are there other such tales in OBOL land?

Bringing in Common Eider would be a real feat :)

This is an interesting story about the turnstones being attracted by the
Tai-Chi movements. I suspect it is similar to waterfowl being drawn close by
the antics of a tolling-dog. Just like wild canines may do, a dog will roll
around, leap up, chase its tail and do some yelping. Using such dogs was banned
for hunting years ago.

It's not a myth, as one day I walked up to the bay at Florence, with my
black labrador. As soon as she saw the many ducks out on the water, she went
into this routine, something she'd never done before. When I saw dozens of
ducks swimming towards her, I hid in some bushes. She kept it up and many
Common Eiders, Am. Wigeons, Mallards and perhaps a few others, lined up no more
than 10 feet from her. They floated there, craning their necks, completely
mesmerized by her. Perhaps wolves and foxes do this in teams, where one
provides the dancing talent and the other lurks in cover, ready to pounce. The
experience described with the turnstones, suggests that if a person were to do
this, it might be a better way of getting closeup looks, than using live or
recorded calls. Maybe a group of birders could appoint one of their number, to
perform on the shore, while the others readied their cameras?
