Early this morning I encountered an apparent migratory wave of
Swainson's on the ground, densely singing/calling all along the first
few milesof NF-17 above Drift Creek ascending into the coastrange.
There was a particularly impressive cacophonydrowning out everything
else at the jct. of NF-17 andNF-19. This was below a fairly low
(800-1000 foot)cloud ceiling, with vocalizations continuing but
thinning out quite a bit along the road higher up inthe clouds/fog.
Unlike when they are flying overcalling this was tough to quantify,
but certainlyhundreds present in the general area.
