Folks,

Just got a phone call from Tim Rodenkirk who is looking at a odd duck that he suspects is a first winter male COMMON EIDER. The bird is off of Fossil Point, Coos Bay, Coos Co, but Tim says he is out there at low tide and he walked around the point to the south and the bird is sitting on a small island. Once the tide comes in it will likely be hard to get around the point and there are no other good spots to check from. We will not have time to check until this afternoon or tomorrow morning. Tim says the bird is rather funky looking with a mix of white patches and dark feathers. He says the bill is long large and sloped like an eider. He is uncertain of the ID but he was leaning towards a COMMON EIDER.

Cheers
Dave Lauten
