My wife, a friend and I took a birding trip down the Oregon Coast on Monday and stopped at seven locations. No real special birds seen but some interesting bird interactions. On the Hatfield Marine Science Center (HMSC) Trail an Osprey caught a small fish in the bay and landed on a post scaring away a Belted Kingfisher. The Osprey continued to pick at and eat the fish as we watched it. The unidentified peeps mainly occurred at HMSC about 60 of them and 100 were seen along the bay/river off of Yaquina Bay Road about nine (9) miles east of Newport. The gulls sp. (350 of them) were mostly at HMSC. Here is the sightings list – I included a list of locations and times so people could get a better idea of when and where the birds were actually seen rather than a generic Oregon Coast as the location.
