Hi birders, Spent a productive day around Florence. It was so warm I had the A/C on for a while! PINK-FOOTED SHEARWATERS were passing the Sea Lion Caves overlook this morning at a steady 1-2/min, with a few SOOTY SHEARWATERS mixed in. I walked the fields just north of Lily Lake and pished up a WILSON'S WARBLER with two YELLOWS in a big mixed flock. The deflation plain is bone-dry, but I walked its length anyway, and saw virtually no birds except a PALM WARBLER about halfway down (good views, but it then flew off over the dunes), and a flyover HORNED LARK. A BLACK PHOEBE and CACKLING GOOSE were along the deflation plain access dike. A pair of HARLEQUIN DUCKS and three RED-NECKED GREBES were resting on the water past the end of the south jetty, and a large flock of SANDERLINGS was roosting on the jetty. Siltcoos hosted a BAIRD'S SANDPIPER (photo here <http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S20045017>) with seven SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS and seven WESTERN SANDPIPERS. And a RED KNOT (photos here <http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S20044950>) was hanging out with 26 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS in the Siuslaw River estuary, downstream of the casino turnoff. I stopped at Fern Ridge near sunset and just had time to walk a few hundred yards south of the viewing platform. Two backlit GOLDEN-PLOVERS were with 10+ PECTORAL SANDPIPERS and many other shorebirds; I assume these are the same two that have been reported in recent days. Didn't see the Sharp-tailed, but didn't walk the full western loop to look for it. Good birding, Noah Strycker
