Yesterday, Thursday, March 28th

White Lake , CA side, Lower Klamath NWR
about 24 MARBLED GODWITs were seen on more of the western side of the unit, along Stateline Hwy (pulling off is difficult there) at large pullout (better place to pull off) just west of jct. Merrill Pit Road and Stateline Hwy, on south side of road:
DUNLIN- 400+
BLACK-NECKED STILT- 39
KILLDEER- 1
OR side of White Lake had few birds.

Merrill Pit Rd., about a quarter mile N of jct. with Stateline Hwy, a singing SAGE THRASHER, also was seen perched atop veg. Look on the east side of the road. Best between two large east-west running berms (not sure how they were formed... larger berm is the south one, closest to White Lake) That location has been historically reliable; I was checking to see if one had showed up.

SANDHILL CRANE- 260: north side of Stateline Hwy, OR side. Look north from Lower Klamath NWR Auto Tour Route ENTRANCE, into partially flooded/wet pasture or field.

SWAMP SPARROW- 1, still present; one reported earlier in March at this location. Seen just off of the viewing platform, which is west of the Kiosk/bathroom at the start of the Auto Tour Route.... (other entrance, or mostly used as an exit on short tour route, is closed due to nesting). Bird seen just off to the west from the platform.

Unit 6 Lower Klamath NWR auto tour route, at the southwestern corner and along the southern edge of that unit, EURASIAN WIGEON- 1

and on the western edge of that unit, and closer to the southwestern corner, shorebirds: BLACK-NECKED STILT: 240 With the depths of water currently in that unit, shorebird numbers and diversity might be interesting in the next few weeks.

Larger groups of White-Fronted Geese are still present; an almost pure flock of about 4500-6000 (rushed count), ROSS'S GOOSE at Tingley Lakes, south of Klamath Falls.

CACKLING GOOSE- 1, mixed in with about 3500 White-Fronted Geese, up from Horseshoe Dam on Lost River, off of Reeder Rd.

One evening of owling, Wed. March 27th, up in Fort Klamath and Westside Road area, yielded: Great Horned Owl- 23, Barn Owl- 1, Northern Pygmy Owl- 1
