Folks, like I said, I've been hunting around Condon (on two big ranches) for
20 years, and that translates to a LOT of winter days spent hiking out there
and in all that time I've NEVER seen a summer sparrow before. The
spring/summer birding in Gilliam County is quite exceptional if you have
access to riparian canyons, which are mostly on private land. But this is
very odd indeed and odder perhaps than I thought given info posted here. I'll
be up there again very soon doing some fence work, which will give me a
chance to recheck the sagebrush patches. On another topic, the meadowlarks
must have had a great hatch year on the properties I hunt--lots of them this
year, which is great to see.
